Considering a career in construction, but not sure if it’s for you?
You might be surprised to learn that the industry is rapidly evolving and that building the homes of tomorrow takes a team of people from all walks of life.
If you're looking for an employer that prioritises career growth, but values diversity and supports its employees, then you're in the right place.
Read on to discover how we’re shaping the future of construction and creating opportunities for everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.
1: Background is no barrier
“One of the insecurities I had to overcome was worrying about my academic background. It’s more common for people in my role to come from a trade, but it hasn't hindered me at all! If anything, it helps, as it gives me a different perspective.”
Jess Hunter, Assistant Site Manager
At Bellway, we believe in providing equal opportunities for all, regardless of background or upbringing. Our roles are open to everyone, whether you come from a working-class background, or you’re descended from Royalty.
We welcome people from diverse backgrounds into our team and provide excellent career opportunities to help you succeed. Our differences make us stronger.
2: Roles for everyone
“Obviously, manual labour is a huge part of the construction industry, but there are so many other avenues that don't involve this.
My role offers a great mix of both worlds. I’m office-based, but I still experience life on-site.”
Jess Hunter, Assistant Site Manager
Construction isn’t JUST heavy lifting. You could work wherever your talent takes you, with exciting roles and career routes open for anyone who adds to our team. We’ve got opportunities for graduates, apprentices, and professionals alike.
You might think the industry is exclusively male, but you’d be wrong. The workplace has evolved and diversified, exactly as you’d expect. It takes a huge team with different views and experiences to build the homes of the future… And YOUR voice will add something unique.
Our departments include:
- Construction
- Technical
- Commercial
- Sales
- Customer care

Our fantastic graduate programme exposes you to different roles within the company. Whether it's in construction, technical, commercial, or any other department, you'll have the chance to experience more and understand the big picture.
Our approach isn't limited to graduates. We offer apprenticeships that provide a pathway to higher-level qualifications. Every part of Bellway can host engineering apprentices and quantity surveyor apprentices, ensuring a focus on the skills of the future.

3: Our business is built on diversity and inclusion
We’re proud to have a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. With 89% of colleagues in our recent survey saying they’d recommend Bellway as a great place to work, we reckon we’re on the right track.
Having a large and diverse team means lots of different faiths and cultural practices. We respect all religious holidays and provide flexibility to ensure that everyone can celebrate and observe their traditions.
The Bellway team has partnered with outreach programmes to meet and engage with communities. We regularly visit schools, colleges, and universities to raise awareness and encourage students from all backgrounds to consider careers with us. You might’ve run into us at some point!
Our Balance Network and Inclusion Steering Committee ensure that diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate events like Men's Health Month, International Women's Day, and Black History Month. We support and promote Pride Month, and we have year-round support for our LGBTQIA+ staff. We don’t just make token gestures and follow social media trends… Everything we do is to create a safe space for our people.
Alongside that, we’re committed to increasing the representation of women at all levels. Through the Balance Network and ‘Women in Construction’, we enable and support female employees whatever their role.
“The Balance Network has developed a communication hub to connect all women working on site. This is a way for female employees to offer each other advice and support, as well as network with one another. It empowers women and boosts their confidence.”
Jess Hunter, Assistant Manager, and member of the Balance Network
